Jean is the Director of the DRPT Prevention and Wellness Services. Wayne is the Director of Ergonomic and Research Services. Together they have been providing a wide range of onsite musculoskeletal injury prevention programs since 1984. They got their start by successfully redesigning a failed program for Ethicon Corporation. Their expertise has been in growing demand ever since. Currently Duffy-Rath programs are ongoing throughout Central New York and North America.  This is the most rapidly growing division of DRPT, PC.  All programs are customized to the specific needs and goals of the company and employees served.

The goal/intent of our onsite prevention programs is to ultimately put ourselves out of business by eliminating the incidence of Musculoskeletal Disorders and building ‘in-house’ expertise in prevention and wellness.

Individualized Prevention Training ('Prevention Rounds')

This program starts with an interactive workshop to orient the workers and supervisors/managers of the targeted areas to the basic prinicples and procedures of the Duffy-Rath prevention program. This is followed by routine and ongoing visits (i.e. 'job coaching') to personally train individual workers to control warning signals for potential musculoskeletal disorders (MSD), to improve their work habits and improve their overall physical demand abilities. DRS has a skilled a growing number of trained Physical Therapists and licensed healthcare practitioners around the country that are dedicated to preventative education and training. This is our basic, most common onsite program.

The 'Ergonomic
Exercise Program'

This is a strategically designed 'stretch break' and exercise program that targets the prevention of the most common MSD. This inlcudes training the workers to perfrom the stretches correctly and safely, redial procedures for those unable to participate in some or all of the stretches and detailed training for in-house experts to lead and implement an ongoing program. The stretch breaks are usually performed 2X/day, lasting from 4 - 10 minutes and were found at Ethicon, Inc. to be associated with higher productivity and a signficant reduction of injury for those workers that particpated.  DRS is one of th early leaders and innovators of this concept in the North America, and has successfully redesigned programs that were previously unsuccessful.

Objective Measurement Programs

DRS has been a leader in the objective measurement of the physical demands of jobs (i.e. functional demand evaluation), developing post-offer physical ability tests (i.e. job matching evaluations) to determine if an applicant has the ability to meet the demands of work tasks safely and acceptably, and performing functional capacity evalutions.

Ergonomic Assessment and Training

DRS can provide ergonomic assessments, train key personnel to perform basic ergonomic screening, design 'focused-workhops' to mitigate risk for MSD and help engineers to redesign workstations, tools and work flow.
